Catie's Surgery Expenses

Donation protected
Background: Catie (or Cat as she is known to many) has been battling endometriosis for the last several years.  This disorder can be extremely painful. Info on endometriosis from the Mayo Clinic.  Catie has experienced many of these symptoms with the worst being extremely intense pain that debilitates her at times.

Surgery 1: Clean-up of Endometriosis: This was partially successful and alleviated many of her symptoms for close to a year, but they returned in force this fall.

Surgery 2: Hysterectomy (remove Catie's uterus): This was seen as the final solution to resolve Cat's pain, etc.  Thinking they couldn't get pregnant anyways, they elected to do this surgery.  The surgery was cancelled with surprising news to all!  They were 6 weeks pregnant.  Unfortunately, this ended in miscarriage just a short week later after seeing its heartbeat on ultrasound for the first time.  The pregnancy has given Catie and Daniel hope that they can still try to have a family of their own.

Current Situation and Solution:  Catie and Daniel have decided that they would like the chance to have a baby of their own.  They determined that in order for Catie to be healthy enough to have a chance at a successful pregnancy that they will do one more endometriosis surgery to see if that can buy Catie a couple of pain free years or relieve her symptoms permanently.  After much research, they have chosen to do this last surgery with a renowned doctor based in Denton, TX.  His name is Dr. John F. Dulemba and he has performed over 5,000 endometriosis surgeries in his life.  He has one of the highest success rates with around 80% of his surgeries being pain free for at least several years.  Much of that success he attributes to doing a second surgery to remove any scar tissue built up after the first one, usually within a week of the first.

The Ask: With a greater success rate, comes a higher cost.  Insurance doesn't cover this surgery.  At a cost of $5,500 combined for both surgeries, it will be covered by Catie, Daniel and their immediate families.  Insurance will cover the cost of her hospital stay after both surgeries.  As you can see below there isn't a ton of travel time in between surgeries for Catie to go back home to Houston, TX.  We are asking for you to help them with assistance paying for 11 day's worth of hotel, food, and general assistance around the holidays due to their loss in income. Catie hasn't been able to work since sometime in October and Daniel missed much time with surgery, pregnancy and miscarriage.  Anything leftover would be put towards cost of the surgery.

Surgery 3:  Friday December 15th in Denton, TX with a pre-op appointment on December 13th also in Denton, TX.

Surgery 4: Friday December 22nd again in Denton with a pre/post surgery follow-up on December 19th also in Denton, TX
