Cathy and Brent

Donation protected
As many of you know, Cathy’s fiancé is Brent.  Cathy and Brent have quite the love story, as they have known each other for most of their lives.  They dated when they were in their late teens, and then drifted apart for some time and had their own families.  As chance will take it, they found each other again later in life.  Cathy and Brent would say that they were soulmates, meant to be together against all odds.  They are planning a wedding for July 2019 to finally formalize their blended family of 5 children and 1 grandchild.   Then suddenly, with no warning, the tragic news of cancer has changed their lives forever.

In May 2018, Brent was complaining of pains in his stomach.  He didn’t think much of the pain, as he owns his own business renovating homes, and thought that he may have pulled a muscle.  During the summer, Cathy and Brent went on vacation to their hometown in Newfoundland for 3 weeks.  When they returned, Brent was still suffering from the pain in his stomach, so he decided to see a doctor.  Urgent care sent Brent for an ultrasound, and while they waited for the results, his pain intensified to the point where he could no longer eat.  When they finally received the results from the ultrasound, it showed that he had three spots on his liver that could have meant anything.  Brent received an ultrasound, and after waiting a week (that felt like a lifetime for Cathy and Brent), the results showed that Brent had stage four inoperable colon cancer.  Brent finally saw an Oncologist who recommended that he have 4 chemo treatments in an effort to shrink the tumor enough to allow them to operate.  After completing his first treatment two weeks ago, he was unable to continue as he lost a lot of weight (he was approx. 206 lbs and now is 155 lbs) and had had sores in his throat due to the treatment.  He began to drink Boost drinks and this allowed him to gain 5 lbs and they were able to proceed with the second chemo treatment.

Brent saw the Oncologist on September 13, 2018, and they reviewed his second scan to find out that cancer has spread to his liver and his lungs.

Cathy privately spoke with the Oncologist who said that Brent’s enzymes in his liver are low and they hope it will go up after treatment if not, they aren’t sure what would be next.  Cathy asked the doctor of her honest opinion, and she said concentration on the enzyme levels, treatment and preparation for a hard battle ahead is all she can recommend at this time.

Brent worked for himself, so he isn’t able to get E.I. benefits.

They are trying to pay all of their bills using one income, go to doctor’s appointments and pay for parking and continue to provide for 4 children etc....Needless to say, financially they are struggling due to loss of an income.
