My name is Cathy Taylor and I have been married to my husband David for 38 years. We have 2 beautiful daughters and 4 amazing grandchildren. Just like most people, we have had our share of triumphs and tragedies.  Over the last 5 years my husband has been plagued with an abundance of health issues. Three years ago, David was diagnosed with a brain tumor on his optic nerve which meant he had to have a biopsy and the surgery to have it removed. God smiled on us that day because it turned out to be benign.

A year earlier, David had to have his left knee replaced which went very well. However, (2) years ago he had to have the other knee replaced which didn’t go well at all. Shortly after the surgery, he developed an infection which caused severe swelling, very high fevers and many trips to the Doctor. He had to have a revision to his knee replacement.   He was placed on antibiotics and told he would have to be on them for many years if not the rest of his life. David had to be hospitalized last week in an effort to try to get the infection under control.  He is currently receiving antibiotics by IV at home.

David was in the Marines and hurt both his knees and had surgery while still in active duty.  The VA provided us with disability on his left knee when he had it replaced.  They are not providing anything on his right knee and we have been fighting them for 2 years and continue to fight.  We have also applied for social security disability, but again we are continuing to fight for it.

We recently found out that David will have to have a liver transplant as the antibiotics have caused his liver to fail. However, before that can happen the infected knee has to be removed, and he will be forced to be in a wheelchair until a new knee can be put in. Once that is done, he will be placed on the donor recipient list. Due to all of this, David was forced into medical retirement and was told it could be 2 years before he receives any disability pay. I am the only one working and earning a paycheck. During his 5 years of the health issues, he has been out of work for at least 2 ½ years and the medical expenses are mounting and becoming astronomical. There are times when I wonder how we will pay rent, eat, obtain the medicine he needs and just plain survive. The medical bills continue to come in the mail daily.

Long story, we’re doing the best we can. Some things will have to go unpaid as we just can’t pay everything and eat too.

Thank You,

Cathy Taylor
