We're Performing at World Youth Day

Help Christine and Richard live and spread awareness of the grace of the sacrament of marriage. “If Catholics simply lived the grace of the sacrament of marriage, in 40 years we would be a Christian society,” said Scott Hahn at the World Meeting of Families, 2016.

We need your help to evangelize through the arts in Krakow, Poland for World Youth Day, 2016. You remember what it was like: sensing the desire to “find yourself” and travel abroad. It’s our job as Richmond Catholic Theatre to reach out to those young souls and show them the Gospel through performance of the spoken word.

Richmond Catholic Theatre was founded in June 2015 and has spent the last calendar year producing The Jeweler’s Shop: a meditation on the sacrament of matrimony, passing on occasion into a drama, written by St. Pope John Paul II.  You may have seen us or heard of us through Mass announcements or bulletins, as we have performed at various Catholic Churches throughout the Diocese of Richmond. Our performances include the 12th Acts of Faith Festival in February 2016.

This play looks at marriage in 3 different couples: a young, newly engaged couple, a couple in the midst of marital turmoil, and a couple highly aware of the wounds left in them by their parents’ relationships. Presented in a minimalistic style, The Jeweler’s Shop challenges the audience to look at the Absolute Existence and Love that is God.

After a six month, nail-biting, prayer-hustling application period, we will perform at the World Youth Day Festival in Krakow, Poland on July 29, 2016. The Festival is a global gathering of young adult Catholics that occurs every 3 years — we will shout God’s message to huge chunk of an estimated 3 million people.  We are thrilled!!

We appreciate bluntness and humility: we are trying to rapidly fundraise for this evangelical trip.  We have an estimated need of $20,000.  Through a partnership with Iceberg Media LLC, a crew will film a documentary of our journey, giving you a passenger’s seat of the action. It is our fervent hope that this performance and documentary will start conversations about faith, human dignity, Absolute Love and Existence beyond our Commonwealth.

With your help, we will fund the performers’ and filmmakers’ travel costs to Poland, and the  finance the documentary.  There are 7 performers in this production — 6 out of the 7 are fully funded for this trip.  There are 4 filmmakers with Iceberg Media LLC and the editing process will continue when we return to the United States in Aug. 2016.
