Cataract Surgery for Experienced Photographer

A few days ago I spent a mere 4 minutes with a Surgeon; that's all the time they needed to confirm that surgery is 'medically necessary' in order for me to keep my sight.

I've worn prescription lenses for decades; I recently turned 60. Cataracts seem almost inevitable with age but as a photographer and graphic designer I know I still have a lot of images to create. I also use my car every day as a driver for a food delivery app. Plus visiting my family and friends across North America.

Surgery is scheduled for Wed. June 19th  (3-1/2 weeks away) at the Havener Eye Institute.

While the OSU Medical Centre is providing significant financial aid, I will have to cover a portion of all fees and expenses. There's the surgeon's fee, the outpatient facility charges, anesthesia, prescription drops and 2 scheduled follow-up office visits. Oh, and new eyeglasses- even without cataracts I will need some visual aid.

Then, during the recovery period I will be unable to use my computer, camera, or car. Being a freelance Creative, I do not have a corporation offering me vacation time, or medical leave/insurance. There are some basic household expenses (food, shelter, utilities) that need to be covered.

Despite my age I am quite comfortable living and working in this digital age: Dad bought an IBM-5150 and I started coding before most people had even heard the expression "personal computer". Blogs and social media are as much a part of my life as books and movie screens.

I will also need a local friend (with a drivers license) to chauffeur me to the surgery and office visits- I'm using Facebook to arrange that.
