Cataleyas Medical Expenses

Family & Friends, we have found ourselves in one of the toughest times of our lives. We are new parents to a  sweet baby girl and within just minutes I felt like she was taken from us. After I gave birth, the nurses checked her and noticed she had really low blood sugars. Her numbers were low 20s when a normal range is around a 100. They quickly took her to the NICU where she was connected to IV fluids that were keeping her sugars up. With a couple days connected they thought it would stabilize her and she would be able to regulate them on her own. When that didn't happen, they had her transferred to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital where an Endocrine specialist could look at her. After many tests and different medications that didn't work, on Tuesday June 13, 2017, they diagnosed her with Congenital Hyperinsulinism. It’s a rare condition that happens 1 in 50,000 births where our baby girls Pancreas releases high amounts of insulin. It doesn’t know when to stop releasing insulin so it leaves her with low blood sugars. Having low blood sugars is dangerous because it can cause seizures and then brain damage. We are so lucky that her low sugars were detected right away to prevent this but unfortunately after 12 days the help and treatment that she needs is not available here in Arizona. Last night, we got the news that there are only two facilities in the US that are able to treat her condition. One is in L.A. and the other in Philadelphia. She will be transferred to L.A tomorrow and that is why we need your help. She will have testing and any surgeries she needs all done over there as well as her recovery that can possibly take up to a month or more. This Gofund Me will help with any expenses we come across over there since our insurance won’t cover everything, such as lodging, transportation and food.
