Help Pay Cat Purr-idise's Vet Bill!
Meet Mikey, one of the 200 lucky feline residents at Catastrophes Cat Rescue, a beautiful, animal-focused sanctuary in the heart of the southern-English countryside. Mikey was under threat of being abandoned and left to suffer the ravages of a hot climate with no water or food . He lived with a group of stray cats who were fed outside a holiday complex, but, because he was feral and therefore wary of people, the owners of the complex deemed him unworthy of sharing the other cats' food.
When Mikey started to show signs of ill health, with a sore, bleeding nose, a bad eye, and bites that were becoming visibly infected, word reached us that he was going to be cruelly disposed of. The fate that was plotted for him involved dumping him far away on barren waste ground where the shy boy would have suffered a slow and painful death from heat and starvation.
We were not going to let that happen.
We managed to trap Mikey in the middle of the night before anyone could abduct him and whisked him away to safety. He received immediate medical attention, but our vets advised boosting his health and weight before having him undergo surgery on his eye. Mikey has entropian, a painful condition where the hairs surrounding the eye grow inwards, scratching the lens of the eye and causing constant pain and suffering.
The grumpy feral cat has now spent several months in intensive care at Catastrophes Cat rescue, having his wounds treated, getting proper food, and slowly getting used to benign human contact. He's now at a healthy weight, his fur and skin have recovered beautifully, and he has amazed us all by learning to play football! Every evening, Mikey plays with his favourite toy: a plastic ball with a noisy little bell inside. His soccer practice goes on for ages, only stopping for a half-time snack to give him the energy he needs before play resumes in the second half. And what's particularly lovely is that Mikey now enjoys tummy tickles from his carers—although very much on his terms.
Mikey is now ready for the eye op that will complete his recovery and transformation. Once he has fully recovered from surgery, he will finally be able to go outdoors and enjoy this gorgeous British summer. Mikey loves his new lease on life and proudly accepts his role at Catastrophes as a handsome Prince of a cat. We are thrilled to have been able to intervene and rescue him from the nasty fate that awaited him, and we can't wait to see him finally get the surgery he so badly needs.
The operation will cost £450 (about US$600), but we must pay off our £11,000 vet bill before the surgery can go ahead. We hope to raise a total of £15,000 so that we can have some funds in the kitty (pun intended) once our vet debt is paid off.
