It’s nearly a year since my amazing husband Karl died. I miss him more than ever now. Some days are just so hard without him by my side. But I’m trying to get on with life as I know that’s what he wanted for both me and our beautiful daughter Sophie.
Karl was a truly wonderful person - a great father to Sophie, a hard working and dedicated family man and a loyal friend. Determined and strong to the last minute of his too-short life.
I looked after Karl at home, something that was only made possible by the truly amazing team of District Nurses from Greater Glasgow & Clyde - Partick Community Centre for Health. They were there for us every step of the way on our difficult and unwanted journey. I know that I couldn't have kept going if it hadn't been for their constant care and attention. Nothing was ever too much for any of them, right to the last few hours of Karl's life. I wanted to find some way to thank them all for the work that they do and the support that they gave both Sophie and I through the most difficult part of my life.
A few months ago, one of my friends asked if I fancied doing the Caledonian Adventure Triathlon. I’d had a couple of glasses of wine by this point so I agreed and then I thought - why did I say yes? I said yes for Karl. He loved anything sport-related and he thrived on a challenge. So, on the 15th September ( 2 days before the anniversary of his death ) I’ll be doing it for Karl along with my 3 fabulous friends Jeanie, Laura and Pamela and for the fabulous team of District Nurses that cared for him. His memory will keep me going to the finish line no matter how hard I find it ( I’m thinking it’ll be quite hard given my lack of training at this point! ). This is for you Moysey Boy! XXX
It is hard to show thanks to NHS staff as they are not a charity. Most giving sites are geared towards giving to charity only. So I would like to ask all my friends and family to help me show how much their work is appreciated by giving a small donation in Karl's memory. I then intend to pass any money raised onto the team to use as they see fit.
