Cassino War Cemeteries Commemorations May19 2021

Dear Friends,
Over the past months we have noticed that, in all War Cemeteries of this territory (Polish, German, Commonwealth, Italian and French), the Remembrance Poppies, which were usually left on the graves by tourists who visited before the COVID 19 pandemic, have now disappeared.
We have therefore decided to explain the meaning of the symbolic poppy to the locals of Cassino (and surrounding area) and their families and ask them to come to one of the cemeteries on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 and place a poppy on behalf of those who are unable to visit these sacred places, because of the current travel restrictions. We want to send a strong and united message of hope, showing to all the world, that even in these times of enforced isolation, there is still a way to commemorate the sacrifice of the victims of the Second World War and unite ourselves, even over great distances, with our friends who share a common bond.
This act will, hopefully, give a new meaning to that sacrifice that was made 77 years ago.
The Cassino M.i.A 1944 Association has initiated this fundraiser in order to fund the manufacture of the symbolic Cassino poppies that will be placed in the War Cemeteries. It will be possible for a poppy to be placed either on a particular grave, spot on the battlefield, or near the Abbey and surrounding area.
There will also be an opportunity for donors to send a short description (300 words max), including a couple of photos if possible, of their connection with the history of this territory for inclusion in a commemorative booklet.

Cari amici,
Negli ultimi mesi abbiamo notato che, in tutti i Cimiteri di Guerra di questo territorio (Polacco, Tedesco, Commonwealth, Italiano e Francese), i Remembrance Poppies, che di solito venivano lasciati sulle tombe dai turisti, che venivano numerosi qui in visita, prima della pandemia del COVID 19, sono ora scomparsi.
Abbiamo quindi deciso di spiegare il significato del simbolico papavero agli abitanti di Cassino (e area circostante) e alle loro famiglie e chiederemo loro, di venire in uno dei cimiteri mercoledì 19 maggio 2021 e posizionare un papavero a nome di chi non può visitare questo territorio ed i suoi luoghi sacri, a causa delle attuali restrizioni di viaggio. Vogliamo inviare un messaggio di speranza forte e unito, mostrando a tutto il mondo, che anche in questi tempi di isolamento forzato, c'è ancora un modo per commemorare il sacrificio delle vittime della Seconda Guerra Mondiale e unirci, anche oltre le grandi distanze che ci separano, con i nostri amici che condividono un legame comune.
Questo atto, si spera, darà un nuovo significato a quel sacrificio che è stato fatto 77 anni fa.
L'Associazione Cassino M.i.A 1944 ha avviato questa raccolta fondi per finanziare la produzione dei simbolici papaveri di Cassino che saranno collocati nei Cimiteri di Guerra. Sarà possibile collocare un papavero su una particolare tomba, sul campo di battaglia o vicino all'Abbazia.
Ci sarà anche la possibilità per i donatori di inviare una breve descrizione (max 300 parole), comprensiva se possibile di un paio di foto, del loro legame con la storia del territorio da inserire in un libretto commemorativo.
Questa pagina verrà aggiornata man mano che la raccolta fondi procede.
