This morning around 6:30 AM, we were notified by our produce delivery driver that our key box was destroyed and the door was open. We soon realized that we were robbed of all of our electronics.
We called the police, got a report, and this kind police officer agreed to visit the tracking location our phone was showing, around Grove and Parker.
Break-ins at small businesses in San Francisco has only increased during this pandemic. We can only imagine that people who have no other means to get quick cash to survive are resorting to these acts.
The kind officer told us that thieves are now hiding at the newly built restaurant parklets, waiting for restaurant cleaning crews or deliveries to open the door and sneaking in. What a year 2020 has been.
We opened this campaign to answer so many of your kind calls to support. Our losses are probably around $3000 or so, to replace all iPads and an iPhone and changing all locks. Our insurance may cover some damages, but the deductible is $1000, and not sure if they even will, as they have been denying all kinds of COVID-related claims left and right. It is a set-back we can manage though.
This brings us to our main point: why are more people resorting to these break-ins? I know there may be some who steal for the sake of it, but there are many more who are simply suffering and completely out of legal ways to make money due to this ongoing crisis. If we were all compensated with adequate social measures like in other civilized countries, i.e. Canada $2000/month to all residents since March, there would be less people having to commit these crimes.
We have been pushing Congress and the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with our open letter to commit to continuous funding support for all residents and businesses and are collecting support signatures. If you could spread the word about our campaign to help all Americans, we'd be super stoked.
