Hello friends. We, her friends and family, are asking for your help for Cassandra. She has to have a double mastectomy November 12th, and then reconstructive surgeries to follow over a few months. Then, a total hip replacement.
She was scheduled for a complete hip replacement when she found out she has an aggressive lobular carcinoma. The hip surgery has had to be put on hold.
She is looking at at least three major surgeries over the next several months.
As a result of the hormone therapy she has to be on, she has severe 24/7 chronic pain in her hip, legs and back that has been exacerbated due to one of the side affects of the drug. This has made it very difficult for her to walk at times, and she gets very little sleep as a result of the pain.
In spite of this, she focuses every day on staying positive and grateful, and busy with her creative writing projects, which brings her joy.
Her sister died a few years ago, and had battled breast cancer for a few years, so she has an elevated risk.
She is a drama coach and writer, with many students that love her. She has always gone the extra mile to help others, and now she needs help.
She is now on temporary disability, which is only half of what she was earning and is having difficulty paying the medical and other related bills. Her Integrative Oncologist, Dr. Donald Abrams, ( a brilliant and renowned Oncologist) wants her to take very specific organic and expensive supplements and alternative medicine such as acupuncture, etc. He has prescribed a very specific organic diet as well, all very important things that will build her immune system before and after surgery, and help to counteract the traditional cancer medications she is and will be on for 5 years. Insurance does not cover these integrative medicines and treatments.
She also has been and is the primary caregiver for her husband, who is handicapped with a failing heart, COPD, and other serios health issues. She has been the breadwinner since 1994, but now won't be able to work for a few months.
Her medical bills are rapidly rising, and she wont know if she will need chemo and/or radiation until they do the surgery.
