Cash's Chemo

Donation protected

I adopted Cash from PAWS Chicago in 2011; he was scared, underweight, and quite a handful. With lots of care and love (and training!), he became a true gentleman and the best friend a gal could hope for. He's been my constant partner and is part of the magic and joy in my life.  My friend often comments on the special relationship that Cash and I have, and it's true. He lives for me and I for him. In short, he's good dog.

In January, a week after the passing of my beloved cat, Cash was diagnosed with cancer, specifically adenocarcinoma  (a tumor in the anal gland sac). Unfortunately, dogs don't do well with this particualr cancer, so for Cash, it's a matter of treatment for pain management and to slow the cancer from spreading.

Because treatment can prolong a happy life and because Cash shows no signs that the cancer has spread, he is an excellent candidate for chemotherapy. The doctors hope that the chemotherapy will aslo shrink the tumor and make him a candidate for surgery, but as of now, the tumor is so large and has grown into his muscles, that surgery is most likely not an option.

Cash remains a highly active and happy guy, and I want to keep him that way as long as possible. As a single mom to a nearly 4 month old, the financial strain of the chemo treatments, lab workups, medications, and monitoring is a bit much to bear alone.  He must go for 5-6 sessions and each visit costs around $630 per session. I am humbly asking, then, for some help to alleviate the strain.  I recognize that we all have our financial woes or things we might be saving for or simply may not have much to offer, but please know that every little bit helps. And if you don't think you can donate, but perhaps know someone who might be willing to help, please let him or her know about Cash and the wonderful dog he is.

I remain hopeful that the tumor will shrink enough, making Cash a candidate for surgery. If, however, his health turns for the worse, any extra money raised will be donated to PAWS where I adopted Cash.

I am grateful for the time you've taken to read through this and I could never thank you enough if you see fit to provide a donation for Cash's treatment.
