Casey's South Africa Mission

Casey Parham believes that. She has seen it in her own life as a student at Fordham University and now she plans to share it this semsester as she travels to South Africa!
Casey is taking a semester off from school and has decided that she wants to use that time to teach others. She will be volunteering with several aid organizations in South Africa.
She will leave the states and fly to Johannesburg
at the end of this month. There she will be working with The Assist (African Sports & Scholastic Initiative for Students in Townships), an organization based in the township of Alexandra.
"The township of Alexandra is one of the poorest and most dangerous areas of South Africa's economic hub. Unemployment sits around 60 percent, and the majority of its residents live in overcrowded informal settlements or shacks."
Needless to say, those are real barriers to education and many of the students drop out long before graduation.
The Assist works with children to overcome some of those challenges by emphasizing the value of an education combined with extra curricular activities.

Next, Casey plans to volunteer with Amandla Development in Cape Town.
"Amandla Development works to empower South African youth with equal access to quality education opportunities. We do this by building capacity in effective grassroots organizations working in education, in order to maximize their impact."

WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION PROVIDE?
Glad you asked. Your donation will help provide round trip airfare and travel expenses to Johannesburg, accomodations and living expenses while Casey is volunteering in Joahnnesburg and Cape Town.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Money that is not used for those purposes will be donated to those organizations.

My friends, so many of you have watched Casey basically grow up before your eyes via my blog, GoodEnoughMother.com . You know her to be a wise, soulful, thoughtful child/woman with a deep love of reading, learning and service to others. She spent her summer working with kids in Manhattan; now she looks forward to doing the same thing in a place where the need is great. Like a pebble in a pond, her reach may be small but it will be mighty. Lives will be impacted, including her own.
If you can help, please know it is greatly appreciated. If you cannot, we would love for you to send her off with good thoughts and prayers.
