Casad Family Farms Tornado Relief Fund

Donation protected

On May 30th, just above the dry ground of Eastern Oregon’s high desert a super cell formed, it’s heavy hail and tornado ripping through Casad Family Farms and damaging buildings, crops, irrigation equipment and fencing. As you may know, Casad Family Farms is an 80 acre regenerative, certified Organic farm outside of Madras, Oregon, home to Chris Casad & Cate Havstad as well as their horses, cows, pigs, chicken, geese and Cate’s business, Havstad Hat Co. Through their commitment to provide both food and food for thought through community based agriculture, Chris & Cate have taken an additional 130 acres under their management in order to restore soil, humanly raise healthy animals and grow crops that can support their community. Without much warning the storm raged through theirs and neighboring farms, decimating cattle fencing & 2000’ of irrigation wheel lines, shattering windows, totaled a new 30' travel trailer, destroying young plants and leaving them with more cleanup and repairs than they can manage alone. This Go Fund Me has been setup to help our friends recover with the support and immediacy they have provided for their community near and far.

So far damages have been estimated at $70,000+. Cate and Chris have set a goal to raise $30,000 to help. The wheel line replacements will cost $26,000. Unfortunately though this event, Cate and Chris discovered the wheel lines were not listed on their farm's insurance policy. Structural damages to the creamery and barn are estimated (as of right now) at another $40,000+. The fencing materials will cost about $1,000 and $3,000 to replace the windows set aside for the build out of Cate's hat workshop.  It is essential for them to get irrigation back up and running ASAP, as their crops are growing and their cattle are in need of fence. Literally, the seeds have been planted, they need your support to bring the water to help them grow. Any donation amount helps. We know it is a tough time for most right now and appreciate your support in helping our friends and farmers, already stretched to their limits.
