New Moms Seek Education and Job Training in order to #breakthecycle of Poverty and Homelessness
Michelina and Erica were recently homeless...and pregnant. For whatever reason, they ended up in a place where they were down and out, with no place to go and babies on the way.
After seeking out help from friends and family, their last hope was to contact Sheltering Grace Ministry, who was able to bring them into their program and help them get through their final trimesters and give them a place to stay.
Now the program at Sheltering Grace Minisitry is over and the women are potentially facing the same challenges of homelessness and poverty.
It's time to #breakthecycle.
Through a partnership with Kennesaw State University, the women have an opportunity to #breakthecycle. The College of Continuing and Professional studies has invited the women to participate in their certificate programs: Phlebotomy and Medical Billing and Coding. This fantastic opportunity will give them a chance to get jobs that will pay them more than minimum wage.
This means that their babies will have a chance to grow up in healthy, safe environments.
To participate in the programs, they need your contributions. The classes cost a total of about $3,500, which we are seeking to raise through GoFundMe and through our website, shelteringrace.org.
While in the program, we will transport the women to and from their classes and provide them with mentors to ensure that they will be successful. Additionally, we will provide them with help to build their resume and through our community partners, we will do all that we can to help them find work.
About Sheltering Grace Ministry
Sheltering Grace Ministry is a maternity home serving homeless pregnant women in the southeastern United States. We are reaching out beyond traditional service borders to help moms we serve obtain education through Kennesaw State University’s Professional Certificate program and to provide them with internships within their discipline of study.
With education and job assistance these moms will be able to get off government entitlement programs, move out of the ranks of poverty and take their places in society as productive citizens. The Caryn Lyng Scholarship Fund will ensure that the twenty five plus homeless expectant women that we house each year will have a second chance.
