Carver Wrestling

Last year my wrestlers and friends from my entire coaching career stepped up to help begin creating a first-class wrestling tradition at GW Carver High School here in Birmingham. The main purpose for the program is to impact the lives of young men with the lessons learned through striving for excellence, the same purpose as my other 3 coaching jobs. Last year it was great to receive help from men that I coached back in the mid-1970’s in Waynesville, NC, from the early 80’s at UT, and from all phases of my 34 years at Vestavia. We are continuing the wrestling program in this 2018-19 season with practice beginning this week for our non-football playing wrestlers. We are looking to build on what was accomplished last year. We filled 9 of the 14 weight classes, took 7 wrestlers to Chattanooga to watch the Southern Scuffle, took our non-qualifiers to Huntsville to watch their teammate at State, and took 5 wrestlers to the Georgia FCA Wrestling Camp in June.
I again ask you to consider helping us to continue being able to influence these young men to ultimately become good men, husbands, and fathers through the lessons learned in wrestling
Thank You for your help, I will continue to update you throughout the season.
