Carter's Global Glimpse Trip

Dear Family and Friends,
Hello, it is Carter Madden, and as a junior at Oak Park and River Forest High School I have been selected to participate in the 2017-2018 Global Glimpse Program (https://globalglimpse.org/). I was nominated by a current teacher and after a comprehensive review process of my application, I was one of only twelve chosen from my high school to join a network of other young leaders for an immersive cross-cultural leadership and global citizenship program. As an honored participant of this program, I will be traveling this summer to the developing country of Ecuador in South America for 2 1/2 weeks. While in Ecuador, I will be meeting with leaders in the community and getting to see how the people live. I will also be doing a number of different community service activities to help the people of Ecuador. I know this will be completely different from my own experiences in the United States, but I am anxious to see exactly how I can extend my help. I think that studying the development of Ecuador will be a great way for me to grow as a person, learn and connect with ideas that only have only existed in the classroom until now. In addition, I will be broadening my prospective of the world and seeing first hand that by empowering young people they can take charge of their lives and achieve meaningful goals through cooperation and collaboration. I am also working on improving my Spanish, something that will definitely happen in my 2 1/2 weeks in Ecuador. Finally, this global opportunity will make me a stronger candidate for college next fall with only 1% of high school students studying abroad.
The reason I am writing you, is to ask for a small donation to help sponsor my trip. This once in a lifetime opportunity does cost quite a bit of money and I am trying my hardest to fundraise for it. The program tuition is $5,300 which includes all transportation, accommodations, meals and educational activities. I have already earned a $1,000 scholarship from Global Glimpse donors who believe in the leadership potential I have and wished to invest in my development. I still need to raise a fair amount money and I thought that one of the best ways to do so would be to reach out to the people who care about me and to ask them to help support my trip. Any amount of contribution would be appreciated and will enable me to share in this wonderful opportunity.
