Carter's Cause

In honor of Carter Moore Oldehoff | January 21, 2019-January 24, 2019

Our son Carter was born a micro preemie at 24 weeks and 1 day. We lost him after only 74 hours, but what an amazing 74 hours it was to meet our son. Carter was so strong and such a fighter. We are beyond grateful for the time we spent with him and to have been able to hold him, kiss him, and fall in love with him. We are so proud to be Carter's parents.

We want Carter's life to live on every day and impact the lives of others. We want to share Carter's story. Our hope is to help NICU parents navigate the difficult journey ahead, provide resources to parents who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a child and resources for family and friends who don't know what to do for a loved one who has just lost a child. Carter's Cause is being created to do just that and more.

Carter's Cause will be an ongoing effort made possible through donations. You can view updates on our journey, resources, and efforts made possible by donations on our site for Carter's Cause. *Our site is a work in progress as we have just embarked on this difficult journey, you can sign up on the bottom of the home page to receive e-mail updates.

Thank you for your support to Carter's Cause . #CarterStrong

On January 18th, 2019 at 23 weeks and 6 days, our world went spiraling out of control. “Justina, everything is going to be okay, we need to get you to the hospital immediately. You’re 3 centimeters dilated”.

On January 21st, 2019 at 9:06pm, our son Carter Moore Oldehoff was born. He was a micro preemie at 24 weeks and 2 days, weighing 1 pound 8 ounces and 12 1/4″ long. The birth of our son was supposed to be an exciting and amazing moment, but Carter was born fighting for his life. Carter was so strong and fought a hard battle. After 74 hours in the NICU, he couldn’t fight any longer. Carter Moore took his last breath in his dad’s arms on January 24th, 2019 at 11:22pm.

Words cannot begin to explain the pain we are going through. Parents are not supposed to lose their child. He was our perfect miracle and our miracle was taken from us. Carter may have only been on this earth for 74 hours, but he touched so many lives. We have only just begun the grieving process and the journey to find our “new normal”.
