Carson Cook's Eagle Scout Project

Hello, all!
My name is Carson Cook and for the last seven years, I have been participating in a life-changing organization known as the Boy Scouts of America. The mission of this organization is to "prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law". These values have stuck with me and inspired me to give back to a school that has provided the community with so much.
One of the most difficult and time-consuming requirements that are necessary to achieve Eagle Scout is the Eagle Scout Service project. The requirement is defined as planning and executing a project in which you show leadership and benefit the community through service to others. However, while the Eagle Scout Project requirement is difficult, it is also one of the most meaningful.
I have grown to truly appreciate the work that the Pioneer Day School has done to help the community and the families of children with disabilities. The school provides programs to help children with disabilities in a 3:1 - 1:1 faculty: student setting in order to help them move into a public school. You can read the heart-warming stories of the lives they have changed here.
To give back to this wonderful program, I have planned a project to revitalize their community recycling program. This program has included collecting recyclables from local residents, businesses, and even Belmont Amusement Park to sort and bring to a recycling center. The program is beneficial in that it both promotes recycling, and allows the children to work on their visual and motor skills.
Unfortunately, the area used to sort the glass, plastic, and aluminum has become cluttered and out-dated. They are forced to sort items in the dangerous recycling center parking lot instead of in their safer school campus. I would like to allow them to stay on campus, so my project involves clearing the area, bringing in newer equipment, and addressing the unfortunate problem of thievery they have had in the past.
The new equipment will include newer and sturdier sorting bins, can crushers that will be mounted on the wall for children to safely and easily use, and a lockable chain-link fence that will cover the top of the area and keep it secure. Through these new additions, I hope to incentivize the continued use of this program for years to come.
Donations will be put towards the new equipment, and any additional funds will be donated directly to the school. $1600 will cover the cost of the sorting cans, chain-link fence, can crushers, paint, and other materials.
My project will take place next weekend on Saturday, September 23rd. Any donation is immensely appreciated!
