Nick Carso Plays It Forward To Camp Care
Nick Carso (12)
from Andover, alongside his father Kyle Carso, will devote his day, June 1st
completing the highly coveted, professional-level Rev3 Olympic Triathlon. The event requires swimming approximately 1
mile followed by a 25 mile cycling course, and ending with a 6.2 mile run. His
hope is to inspire others to what is available through faith and the love and
support of others. He wishes to pay forward his gift to other children in need
through raising funds for the development of programs benefitting the wonderful
children and families of the Camp Care organization (www.campcarekids.org).
Nick's
participation in this event, normally allowed for only those 18 and older, is
also a celebration. Nick officially
received written notification of a complete loss of his diagnosis of Autism
after extensive testing this past fall.
Nick was diagnosed
with Autistic Disorder at 18 months of age. Nick began intensive physical
therapy two days per week for many years in addition to daily services provided
by the state of Connecticut in the home. Nick began to have impressive
improvement at the age of three and a half years of age and attended both
summer and winter camp at Camp Care, since he was a toddler including participating in all aspects of care
including therapeutic horseback riding and in a kid's fitness class each week.
Nick has developed
into quite a wonderful young man, excelling in school, transferring to Corpus
Christi school in 6th grade to receive a Catholic education and
maintaining a straight A average. He also has been inspired to stay healthy and
participates in multiple sports in addition to Crossfit - style exercise. He is
a consistent All-Star baseball and basketball player, expert level skier, and
member of the Newington Bicycle Triathlon team.
At his request, Nick participated
in his first Olympic level Triathlon with his dad on his 12th
birthday, to a crowd of cheering adults based on his age alone.

themselves to their highest potential. Nick has now "graduated" and
is more than willing to give back in an effort to support others in similar

Background
As Nick's dad, a
former patient of Steve Moran's:I was inspired to devote my life to a career in
manual therapy to pay forward the love and care I was given as a late teenager
at a critical time in my spiritual and emotional development. I had attended Camp
Care as a therapist for many years before having children of my own. Through
this inspiration, we chose Steve as a primary caregiver in addition to our
birth to three programs after Nick's diagnosis of Autistic Disorder at 18
months of age.
Having been brought
up in the environment Steve inspired in me that all adults and children should
be given the best care regardless of society's perceived potential, we as
parents naturally chose Crossroads as a very special organization to care for
our beloved son.
