Eff cancer! You can beat this, mom!

I would like to introduce you to the greatest person in the whole world: my mom. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Everyone says that their mom is the greatest." But really, my mom is the best :)

Growing up, my mom, Carrie, has been everything to me, but mostly she has been my best friend. In high school, we spent Saturday nights together putting on mud face masks, ordering Japanese take out and watching cheesy soap operas. I didn't know many other kids who wanted to hang out with their parents on the weekend, but I looked forward to it. She has a hilarious sense of humor, an energy that makes everyone feel right at home and can do a mean tap dance in the middle of the living room. She also makes THE BEST pancakes and is a talented artist and writer.

She married the love of her life when she was 22 and her and my dad had my brother and I. We were a happy family of 4 until one afternoon in 1995 when my family were the victims of a DUI collision that left my mom a widow at age 29. With two young children to take care of on her own, my mom picked herself back up and became both mother and father for my brother and I. It was rough for us most of the time, but my mom's continual positive outlook on life made things easier.

Now, 18 years later, my mom has been dealt another devastating, life changing blow: breast cancer. The endless and ever growing number of doctors appointments, chemo treatments and surgeries have become emotionally, financially and physically overwhelming for my mom. Despite this though, she has kept an extremely positive attitude and is more worried about how this ordeal is effecting her family more than she is worried about herself! My mom has always been selfless that way. She shows up with a smile to her chemo appointments, squeezes my hand when the shots and IV's hurt, and leaves the office with the same smile she walked in with; she really is incredible.

I set up this page in honor of my mom, to help ease her burden in any way we can. My mom has not been able to go into work since February, when she had a double mastectomy, and will not be able to return until after she has completed chemo and reconstructive surgery (some time around November 2013). My mom's current job is not offering any sick or vacation pay and the suddenly disappearing pay checks have been taking their toll. No gift is too small and every donation will help her fight the good fight!

Thank you everyone for all of your love and support during these difficult times, knowing that she is not in this alone has been the best gift of all to my mom!

xoxo
