Carolyn Kay Sizemore
Air Force veteran
Army veteran
Gold Star mother

What can I say about my sister, Kay?
She was beautiful, smart, funny and - even though she was our 'shorty, little, older sister' - she was a powerhouse. She was a self-proclaimed 'weirdo' and we wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
My sister Kay served in two branchs of the military (Air Force & Army) & in 2006, she paid the highest price for our freedoms. Her only child, my nephew, Staff Sergeant Garth Sizemore was killed in Baghdad serving his country in the Iraq War.
A couple of years ago, my sister was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. (IPF) It was a surprise to our family since Kay had never smoked a day in her life. But we learned that IPF is not the same as other lung diseases, such as COPD.  Basically, IPF means an unknown factor is causing scarring of the lungs. Kay was 'considered' for a lung transplanet surgery but her disease progressed to far to soon.
In July, Kay moved to a Veterens Hospice  in Lexington. In the early morning hours of August 3rd, she passed away.
Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Kay but because of how much she has suffered, we find some comfort knowing she is now at peace and can be with her son again. But that will not stop us from missing her desperately.
Unfortunately Kay did not have life insurance and the family would greatly appreciate any help with the funeral bill.
None of us have much money but, if at all possible, could you help with this expense? Even the smallest donation would be a big help.
