Feel free to share Carol's story with your friends and family!

Carol was found on the bathroom floor of her home August 30th 2017 very disoriented.  She was taken to Scottsdale Honor Health Osborn hospital and 3 days later she was in a coma and on a ventilator.  Doctors had no idea what was wrong with her.  All her tests were came back fine.  A CAT scan and MRI showed no issues.  Doctors asked us if we wanted to take her off her ventilator one day before the test came back saying she had neuroinvasive west nile virus.  Carol woke up from her coma 10 days later and was completely paralyzed.  Doctors had no idea how to treat this virus so they discharged her to Select Hospital at Banner Health to work on getting her off the ventilator.  In 30 days she was able to breath on her own but still no movement of from her body.  She was discharged again and transferred to skilled nursing.  After 51 days at skilled nursing she was able to move her arm. After 70 days at skilled nursing she was able to speak and move her arms and legs.  Carol was then moved to a Rehab hospital for 36 days where she learned how to start moving her legs with assistance on a walker.  According to all her doctors, physical therapists and care takers for every day you're down it takes 3 days to get back to where you were.  Since she spent 3 months not moving, it will likely take at least 9 months for Carol to get back to her old self.

Carol was an active independent person before being bit by a mosquito.  She was the first Yoga teacher in Scottsdale starting her studio in 1975.  She taught yoga at Arizona State University for 30 years.  Carol recently was running her own dog training school and is a certified Gestalt therapist.

Carol's insurance has run out. For now, Carol requires 24 hour assistance and 3 hours of physical therapy daily which is all very expensive.  All of her therapists and doctors have said that she is a miracle. They also all say they have never had a patient that works so hard!

Please help Carol get back to independent living again. Please let us know if you have any questions we can answer for you. Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.
