We would like to thank all of the family and friends who have so generously donated to help my Grandmother return home from Alaska. Your support has been overwhelming.
As many of you know, Carol passed away on September 17th in Anchorage Alaska. She was just hours from boarding the Air Evacuation flight we had been planning for her over the last weeks. Sadly, her remains were returned to Charlevoix where we celebrated her beautiful life at a funeral mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
The funds raised here on the Go Fund Me site will be used toward the expenses involved in transporting my grandmother home to rest. We all wish that the outcome had been different. Please continue to pray for our family as we learn to live without this amazing woman.
I am Elizabeth Gorski, Carol's granddaughter and I am from Valpariaso, Indiana and I have been posting information about my grandmother's condition on Caringbridge throughout her illness. I was not raised in Charlevoix, but the show of love and support by the Charlevoix community for my mom, Shawn Massa, Uncle, Patrick Elliott and Ken Statsick, my new grandfather and all of our family was such a wonderful testimonial to my Grandma's life.
We are asking for help to fund Carol’s Medical Air Evacuation from Anchorage, Alaska home to Charlevoix, Michigan. The support she will require from friends and family is tremendous and we need to get her home as soon as possible to begin rehabilitation from this devastating stroke.
The cost of this type of flight is around $100,000. We are waiting to see if their trip insurance will cover a quarter of the costs as anticipated.
In order to qualify for this type of travel, she will have be healthy enough to be discharged from ICU. She may also need to remain on the neurology floor here for some additional amount of time.
