Carmen needs a lung transplant and our help. Carmen developed RA at 21 years old and began having breathing problems by age 29. It is believed by her doctors that the Rhuematoid Arthritis medications taken in the 80’s in combination with the RA did permanent damage to her lungs. By 1994 Carmen’s lung function was only 33% and has since declined to 23%. Carmen managed to live a fairly normal life and continued working until 2015. In 2015 while recovering from her 2nd knee replacement Carmen developed Legionella Bacteria which sent her into acute lung failure. She almost didn’t survive. Carmen is now on continuous oxygen and has a difficult time doing daily activities. Carmen has now been placed on the lung transplant list. It is our hope that she will receive healthy lungs before she declines too much or becomes too sick to have the surgery.
