It’s hard to put into words the type of person my mom was. To say she was the best, most thoughtful, selfless person in the world would be an understatement. She would do anything for anybody without hesitation. She was my biggest fan, my best friend, and made the best darn onion dip ever!! She was a teacher, a friend, and a confidant to so many people. She had the biggest heart, the most loving personality, and a smile that made the whole room light up. To know her was a true blessing. My brother Bobby said it best- "My mother was my best friend. She was always available when you needed help, or a shoulder to cry on."

Unfortunately, God had other plans for my mom. Ten years ago she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She kicked its butt and was cured of that.

Five years later, she was diagnosed with Colon cancer, underwent surgery, and was given the all clear. She was ONE day shy of going into her 5 year mark of being colon cancer free, but one of her tests came back funky. Turns out the cancer had metastasized and was now on her liver, leaving her with a diagnosis of Stage 4 Colon Cancer.

The plans were set and the doctors were extremely optimistic. She was scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor and 8 weeks after that she would start chemotherapy. On Thursday September 21st, 2017 she went in for surgery. The surgery went slightly longer than expected but the surgeon said everything went fine. My mom was weak but was recovering at her pace. I stayed with her the entire time, I wanted to be close to her and I knew she would do the same for me. On the morning of Saturday September 23rd, 2017 my mom lost her fight. An unexpected blood clot took its toll and my mom’s life.

It’s hard to understand why God took her from us so soon, but I know deep down that He had a better plan for her. I am comforted knowing that my mom is in Heaven and no longer in any pain or sickness. She was an angel on earth and is now an angel in Heaven watching over my brother and I and all of her loved ones.

Unfortunately with this untimely death, my brother and I are in need of help to cover the costs of the funeral and miscellaneous expenses. My mom was very involved with her church at St. Matthews in Charlotte, NC and always wanted to have a catholic funeral. I am asking that if you can, please donate so we can make sure my mom’s wishes are granted and she is laid to rest where she was most loved.
