Carmahni's Challenge

Donation protected
Beautiful. Vibrant. Joyful. Independent.

Just some of the words used to describe 16-month old Carmahni Bennett.  Her physical strength and indpendent personality, coupled with her voracious curiosity led to an accident that could befall any caregiver. Standing side-by-side with her grandmother in the kitchen, Carmahni pulled a bowl of boiling water onto her tiny body in a split second with her fast hands.

Devastated, the family now faces a long recovery peroid.  Carmahni suffered severe 2nd Degree burns to her face, neck, arm and abdomen covering 20% of her body.

Her parents are hard-working young adults who have struggled to make ends meet, and this tragedy gives us an opportunity to reach out and show them love and support with our finances.

Her treatments and care take place at the Cleveland Metro Burn Unit, which is a 120 mile round-trip drive for every follow-up appointment.  Home care, wound dressings, pain management, missed work, skilled childcare provisions and transportation are just some of the hills the family will need to climb during the recovery peorid, which will take roughly a year for complete healing.

I am asking that anyone who can, whether you know this family or not, consider making a donation of any size to ease the burdens they face ahead.  The grand total looks like a lot, but over the course of months of appointments and continued monitoring of this delicate healing for the year ahead, it's a small price to pay for each of us, and will allow her parents to stay by her side as needed without worry that their financial responsibilities won't be met.

As a parent of a 16-Month old boy, Carmahni's cousin, Charlie, who is very active and always climbing, I can absoutely understand how - in a moment - an accident such as this can occur.

Carmahni is surrounded by people who love her, and will do whatever it takes to help her heal physically and emotionally from this trauma.  I want to surround them with our love and support, and allow them to take the time they need to care for her, and alleviate a portion of their burden...which is lighter when we all carry it together.

In love,
