Carlos and Erika Harvey Crisis Fund

Donation protected

On July 31st 2017, Carlos Tamayo and Erika Everett moved into their home in north Houston, Texas with their 2 kids and were looking forward to their future wedding.  August 28th 2017 they woke to find Hurricane Harvey had left them in over 3 feet of water.  They have lost almost everything, kitchen appliances and cabinets, bedroom furniture, brand new living room furniture, irreplaceable keepsakes and both of their cars. Because the area their house is in is not a flood zone (a 1 in 100,000 chance of flooding) they don't have flood insurance.  Please watch the attach video to see and hear their story.

What they need to rebuild is new flooring, sheetrock (taping and mud), wall texture to match the top half of the walls, paint in every room, trim, baseboard, 12 interior doors, 3 exterior doors, a garage door, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, all appliances and furniture.  In additon to the house their cars were both flooded and not functional.  There is much more than this but these are the bigger items that have additonal labor costs.

The estimated cost to replace one car, fix the house with appliances and furniture is around $35,000.

Carlos and Erika appreciate the help they recieved from friends in the area.  They need money donations but if there is anyone out there that is able to donate labor to do some of the work that would be a huge help.

The demolition is complete and the house is drying out.   Next step is to clean the house and rebuilding can start.  Funds are needed right now.

As for me, Bryan Kohl, I met Carlos and Erika after I heard that they had been affected by the Hurricane Harvey Flooding.  I live in Katy, TX an hour away from them.  They both work for Nordstrom, the company my wife, Adrianne, works for.  Adrianne told me that Carlos, Erika and their family lost everything in their home including both cars due to the flooding.  I have 2 children and we were lucky enough to not have any damage due to Hurricane Harvey.  I decided that I had to help in some way.  Carlos and Erika live an hour away from me so I have spent as much time as I can with demolition in the house, gutting their car and coming up with a plan with them to rebuild.  I also talked about a Go Fund Me account and asked for permission to make one for them.  They agreed to it and we sat down and looked at estimates they already recieved, other things that needed to done and came up with a conservitive amount of $35,000 to be back into the house, hopefully turn key.

The money that has been and will be raised will all go to Carlos and Erika.  They will be a beneficiary to the account and will be able to withdrawl funds at anytime they need it.  We have already used funds to buy sheetrock and insulation.  Thank you everyone for the support.  It is needed!
