Carlos' Fight

**UPDATE**

The following is message from mom Erica Hernandez

I lost my 1st born baby today. My heart broke into a billion pieces as i held him and watched him take his last breathe. We have felt the love and support from friends and family members. It honestly helps ease the pain. Thanks for all the kind words, prayers and generous donations. He is now in his eternal home without pain. I am now a mom of to a child with wings. 

Carlos is a 14 yr old who was excited about starting high school. He was an active healthy young man who kept out of trouble.  He was admitted to hospital with complaints of chest pain. A few hours went by and after doctors examined the CT Scan they determined Carlos had cancer in his lungs, chest, liver and spleen and brain.
The following morning he was taking into surgery for biopsy to determine the type and stage of cancer. He was then admitted to ICU.  Carlos was diagnosed with Choriocarcinoma Stage 4 cancer. Two days later chemo was started and he didn't respond well. That night he started having trouble breathing and chest pain. The next morning he was rushed to surgery to get ventilator and chest tube. Doctors then decided that it would be best if he was transferred to KC Childrens Mercy Hopsital.
As you can imagine no parent is prepared for a nightmare like this. Mom has been at his bedside since the first trip to the ER. Mom is on unpaid leave from her job. Leaving dad to care for the 3 younger siblings. Dad and siblings are also traveling 3 hours to and from on weekends to be with Carlos and mom. Medical, housing, food, travel, back to school, expenses are quickly adding up and adding more stress for the family during this difficult time.
