Memorial & Funeral Fundraising

My Dad grew up in a time where nurturing your child just wasn't part of any daily routine for a father.  He was tough on my brothers & sisters and I and even harder to get along with.  However, I had overlooked that he was actually providing a roof over the heads of 6 children, and putting food on the table.  A good friend of mine grew up in a similar house hold. When him and I talked about our upbringing we both agreed that our fathers were doing exactly what they thought being a father was all about...for that particular time.  They were tough on us becauses they love us....even if it had never been said.  They were preparing us for anything that the world could throw at us to ensure that we could support our own family in the future.

I got to spend 40 years with my Dad and I'm very grateful.  The amazing thing is......that I got to see my Dad change from the rough and tough to being more expressive with his feelings and absulute pleasure to be around.  They way I saw him interact with my son made me wish that we would have that same relationship, but the truth be told.  Would I have been where and who I am today if we had?  This by no means implies that I'm going to be a jerk to my kids for the first 20 years and then get all soft on them.

The point is that he not only showed me things to be cautious and weary of becoming, but also everything I would love and hope to be. :)  So, I'm very appreciative to have had such a great teacher.

So long story....shortened!

My Dad had a stroke back in Dec of 2014 and was left with left-sided weakness.  During the time of the stroke the Doctors discovered he had two types of cancer.  Lung and Colon.

After going through surgery and chemo he was cancer free for a short period of time.  He had been placed in an extended care facility to work on his motor skills and strength.  He actually got to a point where he could walk for short distances with the assistance of a walker and no longer had to use the chair lift we had installed for him.

Over the next year he started to slowly decline to the point wher my Mom wanted to take him back to Kentucky(where he was born) and take care of him there.

Needless to say...after fighting so hard for his life for nearly two years he lost his battle on January 2nd and passed in his sleep.

I do/will miss him.....and I'm so thankful for all the great memories to hold on to and share.

Current situation is...Dad had no life insurance, so all the current funeral services have to paid out of pocket.  At this time, I was only able pay 4500 in expenses to the funeral home here is Kentucky.

I still need to have him transferred to Ohio, purchase a burial plot, and hold a burial service there.

I called and spoke with the funeral director at preble memorial and he estimated costs of around 7300$ to 8000$.

I wanted to reachout to all my friends and family and see if they could help my Mom in any way they can with left over funeral expenses in Ohio.

Thank you so much for taking the the time to read this.  If you can help...I do really appreciate it!

Please share if you like!

P.S.  When I went to visit my father in the hospital and before going on hospice he did come out and say he loved me.
I have to say it was one of the greatest things I had ever heard.
