OLDER UPDATES ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE

Hi, my name is Jennifer DeLuca. Below you will find the story of my dear friend Carl Descoteaux. We met in the early 2000's when we were in our teens. He is 29 years old, a son, brother, and uncle, and right now, he is in the fight for his LIFE. And both he and his family need your help!
Carl grew up between Leominster, Massachusetts and Florida and had moved back and forth several times with his family. Carl has always been the goofy, light-hearted kind of guy. I do not remember a day when there wasn't some kind of laughter or friendly prank coming from Carl. He is also interested in cars and before his diagnosis, worked as a mechanic. Carl and his family had been back in Florida for several years when I got the "news" that Carl had Cancer.

Carl is currently at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute located in Tampa, FL. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He has had 2 different types of chemo and has also had stem cell transplants. The Chemo ABVD has failed to rid his body of the cancer. This is called Primary Refractive Hodgkins Lymphoma. They then tried a high dose of salvage chemo called ESHAP. We found out that Carl's cancer in his left lung has grown and a biopsy is needed on the right. He needs constant oxygen and also uses a c-pap machine to help him breathe. Carl is also battling a possible infection.
Carl is fighting this with everything he's got. His amazing support from his family and friends has given him strength and hope!
I desperately want to see Carl get better. His treatments are expensive and the mounting medical bills are taking a huge toll on his family. They need to travel to Tampa to see him and even affording the gas to get there is becoming almost impossible. There is simply no money left and his extended family has given all they can to help out as best as they can.

This is the reason why I am trying to make sure his is taken care of during this difficult time. I ask that you pause for a moment, just a moment and think.... while you are reading this, there are countless people fighting for their lives. Carl is one of them. And with your donation, we can help ease the financial burden off of his family so they can focus on the most important thing - Carl.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. It means the world to all of us. (Family and friends alike)

-Jen

UPDATE 6/24 @ 2 AM

At the request of Carl's Mom I have decided to update the page with the latest. Carl will be moving to a facility in Venice FL that will provide a more "home-like" setting and care. He will not be going home as of yet because of the complicated care that is required.
Carl continues to hold his optimism despite having been told multiple times by the doctors that he wasn't going to make it. He continues to baffle them. He wants so badly to be able to leave the hospital and live a normal life. Sadly, in the words of his Mother, "We are losing him." It breaks my heart to have to write this but Carl's family has asked that his wishes be made known if the unthinkable should happen.
Carl would like to be cremated and brought back home to Massachusetts. He asks that his ashes be spread at a location special to him and his family. In order to fulfill Carl's wishes, his family would have to pay for travel and lodging expenses in addition to current medical ones. BUT right now, Carl wants this money to go toward his next treatment, providing that his body is well enough to take it. He is determined to overcome this!
This fund is designed to help them in their time of need. They thank you all from the bottom of their hearts, to both past and future supporters.
I am holding onto hope that I will be able to update this page with better news. I do believe in miracles! Do you?
Thank you all once again.

UPDATE 6/25 @ 2:15 PM

Carl gave everyone a scare yesterday when he became unconscious. It took the help of a friend on the phone to speak to him while he was asleep. Within minutes he started to move and regain consciousness! Carl has been blessed with more time. Please understand that this does not change the doctors' expected outcome of Carl's cancer but he gave us one miracle. How about another, Carl!

Today he is being moved to hospice where he will get more personal care. He is in good spirits and is talking. He cannot wait to get out of the hospital! We love you Carl! CLICK HERE
