My name is John McLean Wolff. I graduated with the original Beta Class in 2013. I am originally from Columbia, South Carolina though I now live in San Francisco where I teach yoga.
The unfortunate and untimely closing of the Carlbrook School has been difficult for alumni and current students/families alike. Regardless of the tone of our experience, it was an intense and emotionally charged one for us all. Let us keep in mind the staff members who found out with a few days notice that they were out of a job and just before the winter holidays. Many of these people have built there lives around the school. Now an integral part of life has been taken away - and, with reportedly no severance. The town of South Boston and County of Halifax are not easy places to find work. Though many students have had mixed experiences, these people that we care for need help AND there IS something we can do. Please donate anything you possibly can to help these people and there families make it through the holidays and start the new year off right. This campaign will benefit only direct employees that served in support roles. This group does not include advisors, board members, directors or upper-level administrators. I am currently in the process of reaching out to these people so that I may make an actual list for this page. I will have a final list by Tuesday the 15th. This will include support staff (admin support, dining services, health support, transition support, student life support, faculty support, campus services, etc.) This is the largest group of individuals of all of the 3 go-fund-me pages. We need your help! The great majority of Carlbrook Alumni have not ever had to worry about surviving financially due to our socioeconomic backgrounds. Please consider the way these lives have been affected. These people supported us by preparing our food, keeping the campus beautiful, helping us transition back to school or University, dealing with our many needs! More than that, they have been our friends and often provided support for and relief from our sometimes intensly charged lives. Please help them. Forward this campaign to all alumni, parents, former staff, etc. Please reach out to me directly with any questions!
