Where to start. It's hard asking people for help. Here goes nothing. My name is Carla Boone and I live in Denver, NC. On March 7th, 2017 I went in for 4 biopsies of both breasts and the lymph nodes of my left axillary (armpit). On March 10th I was told that I have metastatic breast cancer of the left breast and lymph nodes of the left armpit and that I am what they call a triple negative. That means my tumors were hormonal positve and had crossed into my lymph nodes. I am also HER2 positive. This means that my tumors contain receptors to atack other parts of my body. The tumor in my right brest was pre cancerous and would also have to be removed. My treatment plan is chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, back on immunotherapy and then a 2nd surgery at the end of treatment to either remove my ovaries or do a hysterectomy, The treatment for me is going to take a year and a half. I'm halfway through it. I met the gynecolgy doctor last friday and it was decided that the hysterectomy was my better course of action given my diagnosis. Now comes the asking for money. I was a very active person before all this happened. I love music, movies, books to travel, and I love to dance and laugh. Oh how I love dancing and laughing. The treatment has made me very fatigued, lost my hair, weakness in my extremities, and neuropathy in my hands. I applied for disability and was denied. Appealed and lost. I'm waiting on a hearing that I have been told could take years. I don't have years. I have exhausted my savings and my retirement. I can no longer pay my mortgage, utilities, car payment, car insurance and necessities. I applied for medicaid and was, you guessed it, denied saying my illnes does not meet the requirements for a disability and that I am not blind. I have a grant that will pay my COBRA through February. After that I will no longer be able to keep my insurance.
I have reached the end of the road financially and desperately need the help of strangers who can find it in their heart to contribute to me to save my home so I have a place to live and a car to get to treatments and appointments. Please, please help me. I have been a lab tech for 23 years and spent the last 16 of my career traveling to hospitals across the country helping those hospitals help their patients. Now I'm the one needing help. It's my home and no one should have to lose their home and transprtation because of an illnes like I am facing. You know, when we set up my treatment plan I became calm and have retained a positive attitude throughout this whole process. The financial however is taking its toll. I hope you can find it in your heart to contribute to my cause. Thank you to those who will give and have a happy holiday and a wonderful new year to all who take the time to read my story.
