Carla Normand Keeps Sunny Despite Parkinson's

An Update from Carla Normand

I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has donated to my GoFundMe campaign. I feel a wonderful sense of freedom, and it is all thanks to your contributions. I can now start to explore medical therapies for Parkinson’s Disease, which have hitherto been out of reach. With your kind donations, the fear of financial distress has been made, for the moment, far less acute.

Since I could no longer disguise the symptoms, whether on stage or off, it was time to publicly acknowledge my condition. It is not easy letting people know that everything is not “Fine & Dandy” in one’s life. But I am doing it, and so far, I’ve been greeted with great understanding and kindness.

Thank you to all who have contributed to My GoFundMe Campaign!

And thank you to all who may become contributors to my GoFundMe Campaign shortly.

Love,

Car-la-la-la
(Carla Normand)

A Personal Appeal From Matías Bombal:

In my years as a radio announcer and master of ceremonies, championing and presenting excellent music and talented performers, few have made such an impression as Carla Normand. Her singing with the beloved Royal Society Jazz Orchestra (RSJO) for the past 30+ years, a well-known force in the revival of pre-swing orchestrated jazz, is an essential element that makes the band transcend to timeless moments of the past, present and future. Over the years, her singing has enriched our lives and brought such joy. I have often wondered if it could ever be possible, in some way, to give back to Ms. Normand even a fraction of what she has brought to all of us.

You may then understand the great impact I felt in a recent conversation when she shared that she had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Though she continues to sing with the RSJO, Parkinson’s symptoms such as tremors, fatigue and pain make her life difficult. As a result, the financial shortfalls she is presently experiencing are daunting, with her need to pay for medical expenses, therapies, and other unexpected costs.

Despite her condition, Carla is bravely “Keeping Her Sunny Side Up." She recently developed the craft of creating music videos — featuring the music of the RSJO, reaching into the orchestra’s archives for some charming footage and images. This art form gives her great pride. Bringing to light what the band was like in its earlier days is touching for Carla and all of us who have had our spirits lifted by the RSJO.

Things happen beyond our control, and Carla’s diagnosis of Parkinson's is undoubtedly one of those unexpected moments.

I urge you to donate to Carla Normand's GoFundMe campaign, whatever amount you might be able to contribute. It will help cover expenses for treatments and for living while she continues, in every way, trying to keep Parkinson's at bay. Here, at last, we all have a chance to give back, to offer her gifts that might begin to equal the incredible gift she has been in our lives, musically and personally. Kindly tell your friends who also love the RSJO and Carla to encourage their support. I urge you to share this with anyone you know that may be able to help. Any amount, large or small, will be of great help. Please Give Today!

Your generous contribution is greatly appreciated, and keep YOUR sunny side up!
