Caring For Sandy

Donation protected
Dan and Sandy Williamson experienced a love that many people can only dream of.  They were married May 15, 2004 and had 11 amazing years together.

This past May 2014 they received devastating news that Dan was ill and would need a liver transplant. During this time Dan was unable to work while Sandy cared for him.

Dan and Sandy moved from Kentucky to Texas in November 2014 to be on the liver transplant list. They moved in with Cayce and Jerusha Harshman so that Jerusha, a nurse, could help Sandy care for Dan.

Upon arrival Dan was immediately placed in the hospital for two weeks to stabilize him. He and Sandy spent Thanksgiving holiday in the hospital. He was discharged and able to be at home during the Christmas holidays. During this time he was able to meet his newest grandbaby, Margaret - He was smitten at first sight.

During a routine lab visit his sodium levels were low and they admitted him into the hospital- this was Jan 7, 2015. It tooks several weeks to get his labs leveled out but his body began to deteriorate under the stress of his liver. Dan was so very tired but in true Dan fashion, he was still so very funny. He would joke with the nurses and all the hospital staff. Everyone loved taking care of "Dan the Man."

His liver started failing faster and he was moved to the ICU for two weeks. While there the Doctors thought they had found the perfect liver for Dan and we were estatic. Unfortunately the liver was not healthy and we were back to square one.

On Sunday, Feb 22nd, Dan's blood pressure dropped suddenly and the Rapid Response Team was called in to stabilize him. It was during this time that Dan's fragile nature truly stood out. To honor Dan's wishes, Sandy, along with Dan's family, agreed that Dan had fought long enough and that he should be able to truly rest without any more medical interventions. All unnecessary aids were discontinued and Dan was surrounded by loved ones.

Early Monday, Feb 23rd, Dan took one last earthly breath and breathed in a lungful of Heavenly air. We know that he has his full healing that we so desperately prayed for.

Dan has requested that there be no funeral services but instead a Celebration of Life. He lived hard, loved hard and laughed often. The family is currently setting up the Celebration service and more will be posted shortly.

We promised Dan that we would take care of Sandy. During the time of Dan's illness Sandy quit her job so that she could focus on her husband. She spent every single day at the hospital without fail. Please help us give back to Sandy like she gave back to Dan. Let us show Sandy that she is not alone.
