February UPDATE: INCREASED goal to purchase OTC meds, test kits and antibiotics in Ghana.

STORY:

Friends! You’ve been generous and supportive.

This morning I increased my goal! “Why,” you might ask? When we get to Ghana, we travel to a local pharmacy to purchase OTC meds, OTC creams and salves, antibiotics, antivirals, antiparasitics, antifungals, and electrolytes.

We travel with a small dispensary of supplies and equipment.

Waiting until we get to Ghana ensures we have the supplies (i.e., not “disappeared” in customs) and supports the local economy of the village as the US dollar carries more purchasing power (more supplies for less cost) in Ghana!

I’m looking for $555 dollars to get me to my updated goal!

TRIP: March 8-16, 2018

About the trip:

Embarking upon a journey to West Africa to work in a makeshift field clinic and medical mission providing free healthcare and education to persons—meeting them (many of whom have never encountered a healthcare provider before) where they are—in the fields and hills of Ghana, Africa!

I’ve met my original goal but increased my target when I discovered we will need some more supplies (OTC meds, test kits, OTC ointments, antibiotics, routine trips to pharmacies in Ghana and as in past paying for diagnostic imaging on occasion in Ghana).

Please help.

Promo Health Group of Ghana is an avante garde health care provider that delivers health care and education to the underserved people of Ghana.

You might ask, “why go to Ghana to offer accessible health care?” Well, I’ve seen first hand the the inequity of care, a basic human right. Please read on for a reflection from two years ago:

“As I reflect on the mission and on this day as I celebrate my 38th birthday (soon to be 40th)!I am grateful for my mother who gave me life and remember her memory with fondness and give thanks for how she has touched my life and will continue to.

This week I encountered a moment of grace when a patient wandered into the clinic with a severe, asthma attack. As my colleagues tended to his care to stabilize his breathing, I couldn't help but notice the medications they were using. As I looked down at the box, I quickly realized that they were using my dear mom's medications. We lost her 3 months (now 2 years) ago to lung cancer. I give thanks to God her life and remember her on the date of my birth. I am thankful that her life was able to touch the lives of the people of Ghana (as it has for many of us).”

Every gift helps me get back to Ghana.
