Carin Kicks Cancer's Butt!

This past December, my younger sister Carin was diagnosed with stage 1 and stage 2 breast cancer.  After weeks of doctors’ appointments and tests, she learned that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.  On January 4th, Carin underwent a mastectomy.  Since mid-January and over the next 4 months, Carin will receive chemotherapy, followed by radiation, to prevent the cancer from spreading and returning. 

Prior to this shocking diagnosis, Carin worked full-time as an in-home daycare provider.  Due to the side effects of treatment and her comprised immune system, she had to stop working.  This has created a significant financial burden for Carin and her fiancé, Mike.  They are trying to make ends meet with one income, while facing daunting – and accruing – healthcare bills.

 Last fall, before Carin’s diagnosis, the couple became homeowners. Although their new home has been a blessing, and Carin has been able to rest in the comfort of her own home, Mike and Carin are struggling to pay the mortgage under the crippling weight of healthcare costs. 

Carin is a private person; it was my idea to ask for help.  As Carin’s sister, and an aunt to her beautiful three daughters, ages 14, 10, and 4,
I didn’t know how else to minimize the financial burden of cancer.  I wish I could add more hours to the day so that I could give additional funds to support their household.  I am hoping that those who are able can make a donation.
