Walking for Carers 2021

‘Make Carers Visible and Valued!’

Carers Week will be taking place this year during the week of 7th-13th June 2021. The theme for this national event is ‘Make Carers Visible and Valued’ - and we need your help to make this happen during lockdown!

Carers Count are asking our carers and staff members to get involved in an exciting virtual ‘tour’ of Yorkshire and Lancashire. There are several Carers Count teams which work across Kirklees, Selby and Lancashire, so we are joining forces for this very special project and encouraging everyone to raise awareness for issues affecting carers looking after loved ones. Please let us know if you would like to be involved!

Wherever you are, we welcome you to join us in walking, cycling or running to places of interest near you around Yorkshire or Lancashire. Let us know how many miles you travelled and we will add them together to celebrate our collective efforts.

The tour will start from our office at Empire House in Dewsbury and together we will travel to different places, creating a fantastic route around both counties. Please send us photos of all your interesting destinations! (including photos from your local area and local park - anywhere you have walked is an interesting destination). We will reach our final stop, the Carers Count office at Brian Jackson House in Huddersfield, on Friday 11th June 2021.

We know this has been an extremely challenging year for our carers, so we would love for this walking tour to raise some money for a relaxing sanctuary day for carers from all of our services to enjoy. Any donations will help make this possible and will be greatly appreciated. You can also visit our website https://carerscount.org.uk/carers-week-2021.php . Please feel free to share this link with friends and family. Our main goal is to raise awareness for carers while coming together to take on this fun challenge, so everyone is welcome to join the event – there is no obligation to raise funds.

We look forward to seeing our carers getting outside to different places, but if you cannot get outside or walk for any reason, you are more than welcome to join us by getting involved in an activity of your choice! Taking part in baking, knitting, chair exercises or anything else you enjoy doing can all help to raise awareness for carers. We will proudly share your photos and stories of how many buns you baked, pictures you created or socks you knitted across our community.

Together we can ‘Make Carers Visible and Valued’ in 2021!
