Care and Kidney for Kapustka family

Donation protected

UPDATE August 25th: We are about I week out from having the transplant. The surgery went great! Rachel got to coming home on August 19th. She still is in a good deal of pain and her physiology is getting back to normal little by little. Now her weeks will consist of going back to the hospital (45 minutes away) every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 3-5 hour check ups to ensure her body isn't rejecting the kidney. These weeks will be full of constantly tweaking the medications, blood being taken, and assessing her body. These days are very taxing on Rachel because of the length of appointments and energy output. Thank you all for the love, thoughts, and donations.

UPDATE July 14th We have a donor match and surgery is scheduled for August 16th. These are two major hurdles out of the way and we are bracing ourselves for more to come. Thank you for the continued support. It is very needed and accepted with open arms.

ORIGINAL POST:
If you are reading this message it means that you have a significant place in our family. Over the past several months, our family has received information that Rachel’s body is going through what is called end stage renal disease. The past two months Rachel has been working tirelessly to be assessed, cleared for, and now listed for kidney transplant. During this time, she has been on dialysis to help her body gain strength and stabilize.

On June 2, Rachel was officially listed for transplant. Now comes the next step of the journey, finding a donor match. If you are interested in becoming a living donor, it is a multiple step process with first contacting the University of Colorado Hospital at uchealthlivingdonor.org. You will need her full name and birthdate (Rachel Ellen Kapustka April 27, 1974) to make sure you will be linked into donating to her. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call UC Health donor division at [phone redacted]

At the same time, we will also be asking for support for our family. Transplant is going to be a very daunting time for our family emotionally, financially, and logistically. After transplant, Rachel will need to go in for check ups several times per week for around two months. She will also be on immunosuppressant drugs to make sure her body does not reject the new kidney. Significant amount of the times, insurance companies do not cover these drugs and we are anticipating significant out of pocket expenses. Unless a significant break through comes along, she will be on these medications for the rest of her life.

Some of you have expressed interest in helping and we will take you up on that. The easiest way to do this is “signing up” for periods of time that you could be available. A Google document will be created to make scheduling as easy as possible. A Facebook page is made so we have a central area to post progress and news.

Due to the specific needs of Rachel’s diet it will be most effective to help out with food by providing gift cards to Uber Eats, Whole Foods, TruFood, Vitamin Cottage, Mad Greens, and Sprouts.

These can be sent to Realm Chiropractic 98 Wadsworth Blvd Unit 124 Lakewood, CO 80226

Please stay up to date with Rachel's progress at https://www.facebook.com/kidneyforkapustka/

We have also created this Gofundme page to help with the increase medical and living expenses.  It is estimated that some of the medications can be several thousands of dollars per month.

Thank you in advance. We love and appreciate your support in this time.
