Caregiver Fund for Erin Krutz SCT

Hey guys! I know so many of you have been following along in our journey. After being in remission for nearly 18 months, my last bone marrow biopsy showed that the leukemia is coming back, resulting in the need for a stem cell transplant (essentially the same thing as a bone marrow transplant that people more commonly hear about).

Around the beginning of August, I'll be heading to Seattle for a 4 month stay to complete more chemo, total body irradiation, the transplant, and then on careful watch to curb any graft vs. host disease complications and/or infections. During this time, I have to have a caregiver present at all times, and I have some amazing family members who have stepped up to the plate and who are ready to go on this ride with me. We're also required to stay within a 30 minute drive of the medical facilities to ensure a timely trip to the hospital should any infections or graft vs. host disease decide to show up.

I'm setting up this GoFundMe to, first and foremost, assist with financial burdens of my caregivers and their travel to and from Seattle. As many of you have probably experienced with maternity leave, many of us have job protected leave through FMLA, but it is not typically paid leave. Being a caregiver is difficult enough in it's own burden, so I'd like to be able to cover most (if not all) of their costs they'd be missing out on due to taking time off of work. The last thing I want is for any of them to feel the financial burdens of caregiving.

Secondly, after the caregivers are taken care of, if additional funds are remaining, they would be used to help pay for our stay in one of the apartments at the Pete Gross House through Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). This apartment building is the perfect place to stay, as it is exclusively for patients and their caregivers who are undergoing the transplant process, and it is within less than 30 minutes to all of the SCCA facilities.

A lot of people have asked how they can help, and well, this is a really big help to lighten the load. As a cancer patient, I feel a lot of times that my burden becomes too much of someone else's burden, so if I/we can help in any way, I'd like to help take away some of the financial concerns during this process. Any amount you can give is truly appreciated.

Love,
Erin
