Funeral Services for Keith

****Update****
On Monday January 8th, Keith lost the battle and passed away.  It was less than a month since the initial diagnosis.  The cancer took over and he was on life support for the last week of his life.  He was not in any pain and went peacefully.  We are hoping to raise funds to help my mom with the funeral costs as Keith's wish was to be laid to rest next to his parents in New Jersey.

***********************************************************
My father was recently diagnosed with Metastatic Bone Cancer.  Because this type of cancer weakens the skeletal structure it’s causing his spine and bones to break. There are masses that are pressing down on his sciatic nerve which is causing him extreme pain with any movement.

He has since been admitted to the ER as he was having other issues.  At that time the doctor's found a mass in his lung, which is where the bone cancer originated from. As of December 14th he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

We are awaiting the results of the biopsy on the tumor in his lungs to determine what type of cancer and best course of treatment.

While we await the results, they have discovered that due to the breaking bones, calcium has been, and is still leaking into his blood. This has caused him to be incoherent, hallucinating and at times not recognizing family members, or even himself.  Yesterday, December 17th, we started treatment for this and he is showing improvement.  He has begun to remember things and is speaking more coherently. My mom was able to lie with him and they were able to watch a movie together (this was never a possibility before because the situation).

As of right now,  our plan is to do radiation therapy to the tumor on his spine to prevent further nerve damage and keep it from spreading to the other leg.  He will need to be in rehab during this time, this will ensure that the radiation treatment is effective and allow for him to do physical therapy.  We hope that in keeping up with physical therapy he will regain some use of his leg and the growth will shrink.  He can then come home under hospice care.

Once he's home, he'll require a hospital bed and around the clock care.   We need to keep him as comfortable as possible.

As you can see, this cancer is extremely aggressive. Originally we were told he had 4-6 weeks to live but with treatment he could live longer. With each day, something new comes along or something changes.

We are asking for help with expenses, treatment and care.  All of this will help to ensure he lives as long as possible and in as little pain and discomfort as possible. He's has suffered for far too long.  We don't want him to have to suffer anymore and anything you can provide would be a tremendous help.
