Karen Outwater has been a resident of Millbrook and beloved teacher in the Millbrook Central School district for 15 years. . She has been married to her soul mate Jim for 23 years. Together they have three boys and reside in Millbrook where they are all active members of the community. Karen has a contagious sense of humor and a spirit of kindness that is palpable to all who know her. She has touched the lives of countless kids and their families in this community.
On December 8th 2014 our beloved neighbor and friend Karen Outwater suffered a heart attack. Doctors discovered a tear in her aorta during her cardiac catheterization which led to emergent heart surgery to save Karen’s life. During this procedure they had to put Karen on a heart/lung bypass machine to do the necessary repairs. This led to further complications of vascular compromise to Karen’s lower extremities.
Karen and her family are currently celebrating the fact that she been given a second chance at life! The pain and struggles have been many during the last month but her battle has just begun. Karen is facing a long road ahead filled with a complex rehabilitation and many alterations in her current life to return to optimal function.
The family is so grateful for the outpouring of support they have received! There has been an abundant flow of food, flowers, cards, and calls. So many have asked what they can do to help. The medical bills are mounting along with the prospects of having to make alterations to their home to accommodate Karen when she finally returns there where she belongs.
