Care For Elise
Elise was born a perfectly healthy, happy, chunky, chubby, squidgy and podgy baby but only 2 weeks after birth she caught the viral infection Herpes Simplex which caused Meningitis Encephalitis (Meningoencephalitis) where the herpes virus ate and destroyed over 80% of her brain. She’s a determined little girl wanting to live and so she has but with severe consequences lasting a lifetime after her latest diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy.
Neurologists from around the world have looked at her MRI Scans and we can expect:
- 80% of her brain is fully and irreversibly damaged due
to the viral infection eating her little brain. Babies don’t have any real immune system like you so the virus
ravished her.
- Daily Seizures (these are reduced via multiple medication, names of which no parents should know. Phenobarbital, Levetiracetam, Diazepam Desitin, Acyclovir)
- Visual problems (we know she can see, but she has no brain to help her to decipher what she sees)
- Elise could be deaf
- She can feel, so sense of touch will be her main emotion and communication
- Elise won’t be able to walk
- Elise wont able to talk
- Elise won’t be able to go to the toilet herself
- Elise won’t be able to feed herself
True love is the feeling that overwhelms you when a Dr tells you:
- Elise has around 8yrs to live
- Enjoy Elise for a year and then we can put her into a care home
- Your daughter now lives somewhere between heaven and earth
- Most children with her condition will die from pneumonia and asphyxiation of liquid in the lungs
- You might want to begin thinking about your next child
- I do not know if you are people of faith, but you, your wife, and your daughter are in my prayer
God made man, man made medicine, god wanted to take Elise, medicine saves Elise so does this mean Elise now lives in purgatory?
All of these comments can be avoided if we are able to get Elise serious professional treatments and fast. So with your donations Elise has the chance to live not only exist.
No parent should have to outlive their child but this is the reality and fact that we are faced with every day. I cannot even believe I’m typing all the above but our life is now made up daily of “irrational rational” thinking.
Cerebral damage is currently irreversible but new treatments such as Stem Cells (taken from bone marrow) are being looked into all the time and one day in the near future we hope a real treatment can be found to repair the damage inflicted so for now Elise survives on a daily dose of serious medication and we just need your support and care from donations.
Our Goal
Is to raise as much as possible to cover the costs of Elise complications and all the specialised services which Elise will need to aid with recovery and rehabilitation for the remainder of her life, including:
- Physiotherapist – a therapist who uses physical
methods, such as massage, manipulation and exercise
- Neuropsychologist – a specialist in brain injury and
cognitive rehabilitation
- Occupational therapist – they can identify problem
areas in a person's everyday life and help work out
practical solutions
- Speech and language therapist – they use specialist
techniques to improve all aspects of communication
- Home Modifications - Improvements to home making
it easier for Elise mobility.
- Medical Aids - Wheelchairs, walkers, technological aids and many other devices to help with every day living.
Your donations can greatly improve the life of Elise helping to fund all the items needed for daily living. We are not millionaires or we would not be asking, we are just like 99% of the world population living month to month using any disposable income on daily living and donating to others in need. Never in our wildest dreams did we expect this to happen to our first born child.
A father would go to any lengths to protect his family and particularly his daughter, you have no idea what goes through the mind when confronted with a difficult situation like Elise has.
