Care Packages for Montreal’s Women’s Section of the Old Brewery Mission Shelter
Everyone can agree that winters in Montreal are rough. The blistering cold, the blizzards, and the frozen streets and sidewalks.
Now imagine if you had to go through winter homeless and without access to your basic hygiene and comfort needs. The purpose of this project is to provide relief by putting together 100 packages for the women’s section of the Old Brewery Mission shelter.
The homeless world is something that’s often swept under the rug, it’s a problem that as a society we tend to ignore and accept as incurable.
The shelter we’re collaborating with (Old Brewery Mission) offers resources and support with the ultimate goal of ending chronic homelessness. Please take a minute to watch the shelter’s video in the resource section. Our project does not fix the problem in Montreal, but anything helps.
Our packages will include a disposable camera. The purpose of the camera is to give people with homelessness the opportunity to show the world a first person view into their lives and what it’s like to be homeless. The women that are interested, with no obligation, will be able to return those cameras along with their contact information. The pictures selected, will be showcased in a local exhibition, with credits given to the photographers. All women will also be invited to the exhibition, as well as anyone who has donated to the project. To encourage participation to the project, a 5$ Tim Horton’s gift card will be given to the women who will return the disposable cameras.
Any donation is appreciated, but to be specific, a care package costs 30$ each. We’d like to collect enough funds to make 100 of these packages, so please share this link with your friends and family and be part of the movement!
These packages will include:
A pair of warm socks
Winter hat and gloves
Neck warmers
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Deodorant
Lip balm
Baby wipes
Kleenex pack
Tampons
Hair comb
A bottle of water and snack bar
A disposable camera
A loving note
