COVID-19 & care for impoverished families in India

Due to the rapid development of Covid-19 and related losses in Sarnath, India, Sakyadhita Australia will continues to support this campaign, to help 'Red Kangaroo's' with it's ongoing Food Parcel' Distribution.
The Buddhist Nuns, Ven. Tensin Yeshe and Tensin Dao, the founders and directors of ‘Red Kangaroo’, have expressed their deep gratitude for all your donations so far. Recently however, there’s been an unprecedented surge in cases of Covid-19 and deaths in India, also with the loss of life and work in Sarnath increasing poverty and starvation in this region. Given this grave situation, we are requesting if you are able to give a little more, so as to allow further distribute of food parcels to go directly to those most in need.
Along with these growing cases of Covid related deaths, the travel bans have caused closure of many small businesses, especially tourism in Sarnath, so suicides are on the rise. This directly effects elderly parents, partners and children to further suffer from the lack of provisions and nourishment. The staff and friends of 'Red Kangaroo', continue to pack and deliver life saving food as shown in these recently obtained pictures, not only to the families of their students, but to families in far reaching villages and those suffering from the death of loved ones.

A mother and children who have just received a care package from Red Kangaroo.
Once a flourishing tourist city, for Buddhist and other tourist, it now bares empty shops, road side stalls and small local industries. Lockdown caused crops to die & prevent seasonal planting. This has resulted in growing poverty and starvation. We urge you reach out to give a little more support to Red Kangaroo at this time, so they can continue their work in feeding and supporting the families and communities most in need.

RED KANGAROO IN SARNATH, INDIA
The Red Kangaroo in Sarnath, near Varanasi, was created by Bhiksuni Tenzin Yeshe and Bhiksuni Tenzin Dao. They have worked in the rural village surrounding Sarnath, since 2013. In normal times, they provide funding for the education of over 200 village children. Where possible, they offer additional nutritional drinks, health care and emergency support to those families with serious need. It is the only Buddhist Australian charity working in the region, so when Covid-19 began to spread, permits were issued to their 'on ground staff', to gathered and deliver the food packages to families in the outer village of Sarnath.
We have continued to stay in communication with the Venerable and receive regular updates and pictures on how the donations are used to purchase and distributing food parcels directly, to those most in need.
Packages offer essentials, including; dry goods such as rice, dal, atta, sugar, tea and spices, oil, as well as soap and other hygiene materials. It's estimated each emergency package costs about $65 AUD. So far hundreds of food hampers have gone out to families, over the last 6 months.
