Care Packages & Women Shelter Event

On any given night, at least 35000 Canadians are homeless, out of which 27.3%  are women. According to the Toronto daily shelter census, about 12% of the total shelters are occupied by women, with women's shelters having a 98% occupancy rate. These numbers, as well as the homelessness situation in Canada and Toronto, are, indeed, alarming. It is worrying to think that most of these women do not have access to essential products such as hygiene products, clean undergarments, blankets, amongst others. As a result, Women's Mental Health Talks at York University has taken the initiative to not only raise funds to buy necessities for the local homeless women's shelters that support for women and women's mental health but also to create care packages for these women as well as for those living on the streets. These packages will consist of the basic products such as the ones mentioned above, and other products that may be useful.

About us, Women's Mental Health Talks at York U is an organization that addresses the various social factors and barriers that negatively impact women's mental health and well-being. We provide social, emotional, and instrumental support to all self-identifying women through student-led peer support groups and events that give women a safe, accepting, and nonjudgmental space to explore issues that impact their mental health, to build supportive relationship among other women, and to raise awareness of coping strategies women can use to empower themselves.

This event gives us the opportunity to not only help these women, but also allows us to achieve our organization's goal of supporting and empowering women. We are hoping to reach our goal funds by October 20th, 2018, so that we are able to create and distribute the care packages by mid-November. We appreciate any help that will allow us to achieve our goal of helping these women. We are very grateful to those who are able to contribute.

Note: Our organization places great emphasis on transparency. As a result, an expense sheet will be added for you to see how and where your donations were used.

Thank you very much!
