I HAVE 17 RESCUED FUR-BABIES. To me, they are family. I love them with all my heart and soul.
Sammi is a brindle, mixed breed female approximately 5-6 years of age. She was struck by a vehicle outside her home in Stephenville in 2012 and sustained a broken front leg, back leg, and pelvis. Her owner left her in the ditch to die. She was subsequently rescued by the Society For The Care And Protection Of Animals (SCAPA) and remained with them until I adopted her in April of 2015.
About seven (7) months ago, Sammi developed a mass in her mouth that progressed into her left nostril. It caused her some discomfort and eventually interfered with her breathing. She was initially seen by Dr. Danielle Dunn-MacLean and Dr. Beth Marshall at Avalon Animal Hospital and thereafter referred to Dr. Trina Bailey at the Veterinary Speciality Center.
A CT scan showed a mass involving destruction of the bone. Biopsy results did not suggest cancer, but cancer was still a concern. Removal with histopathology was recommended and on February 13th Dr. Bailey performed a partial, left-sided rostral maxillectomy.
Sammi was discharged on February 14th with histopathology, bacterial culture & sensitivity, and fungal culture pending. She is doing well and will have a re-check in 10-14 days. For now, it's no hard food, no toys, and no walks.
The tally at VSC so far is $6900.10 and doesn't include re-check or any followup care that may be necessary.
Sammi says: "My Momma gibbed us all a home. She lubs us and takes care of us. That's s'pensive! But $6900.10 is thru da woof s'pensive! Momma helps others whenever she can; so now Ize askin' eberybody to please help her."
