I am writing this to reach out for help for my sister, Kristen Harrison. She is a single, 41 year old mother of 3, and the sole financial supporter of her household .
As many of you who know Kristen, or have followed her through her days of declining health know, reaching out and asking for help is not something she is comfortable with. Being so used to "going it alone," asking for a hand wasn't something she was willing to do. But, I, along with many who love her, cannot bear to see her struggling while losing this battle for health daily, without stepping in with this plea.
Her Story:
I'm not even sure that I can give an accurate timeline of all the events in Kristen's health history that have led to the devastating reality of her constant and consistent daily pain, but I will offer up my best summary.
Throughout her life, Kristen has suffered from a weakened immune system which meant chronic infections (sinus, throat, and ear) along with powerful headaches. As an adult she has suffered with chronic and terrible headaches and debilitating migraines. Her once weakened immune system is now almost entirely nonfunctioning. For the past year she has battled multiple infections, hair loss, chronic fatigue, skin rashes, excruciating joint pain, swelling all over, blurred vision, terrible headaches 24/7, and many more issues. She has been to many doctors both in town and out, undergoing numerous procedures and lab tests, seeking a diagnosis and hoping for a cure. A few months ago she was diagnosed with Hypogammaglobulinemia (which means all her immunoglobulins are low and why her immune system isn't working) and was started on what was proposed to be lifelong weekly subcutaneous IgG infusions or SCIG (pictured above and not fully covered under insurance) with the hopes of boosting her immune system. She has also been diagnosed with many autoimmune issues (one being Raynauds) and is now being seen for Lupus. For the past 4 months she has battled Systemic Candida (prescribed medication is not working due to immune deficiency) a seizure and ambulance transport (not fully covered by insurance) to the hospital resulting in an overnight stay, fainting spells, and her health conditions have forced her to leave the job she loves until she is well enough to work. Being the head of the house and only 'bread winner', Kristen not working is NOT something she would ever choose, but her body has chosen for her and it's impossible for her to work, as she can barely get out of bed some (most) days. Medical bills have piled up and are still coming in and she has upcoming Dr and appts and other medical care is still necessary, as well as all other household bills and living expenses to worry about. With all of that, along with her inability to work while a team of doctors struggle to properly diagnose her and provide a plan of treatment, this mom of 3 could desperately use the help of the community so that she may be restored to the bubbly, energetic, full of life woman she has fought so hard to become once more.
