Care for Hadassah 3

Donation protected
As a family we are grateful for God’s provision which has allowed baby Hadassah to survive to this point. At 19 months of age she still weighs under 5 kg (11 lbs) and requires oxygen, has a tracheotomy and eats via a nasal feeding tube. But she has progressed developmentally in many other ways and is one of the happiest children we know.

The next several months are critical in terms of her care. If God allows, on February 8th she will finally enter the Campinas University hospital for the insertion of a gastro (stomach) feeding tube, followed by several days in the infant intensive car unit. If all goes well, after a month she SHOULD begin to gain weight – and start to require less round-the-clock care.  All this with a view to someday reaching the goal of 8 kg (17 lbs) in order to undergo open heart surgery.

For over a year Carol Sue Merkh (Hadassah’s grandmother) and Keila Merkh (her aunt) have shared the responsibility of caring for all of Hadassah’s needs, with the much-needed help of night nurses made possible through the many, many special gifts from around the world. This has allowed Dave and Carol Sue to continue their ministry at Word of Life Seminary, as well as in churches around Brazil and to Word of Life missionaries around the world.  Apart from the generosity of God’s people, this ministry would have ended long ago.

While some of the expenses related to Hadassah’s care have diminished, the funds provided to have additional nursing help have been almost depleted.  At this point the hope is that the upcoming surgery will gradually allow Hadassah to be transitioned to less round-the-clock care and thus, less outside expenses.

Today, the monthly cost for her care is about $2000.  We are hoping to raise $12,000 to cover the next period of 6 months.

In addition to your ongoing prayer, we would ask you to consider sponsoring Hadassah’s care. If you would like to be a part of Hadassah’s support team, you can make a donation through this site. Gifts are NOT tax-deductible but will be channeled directly to needs related to Hadassah’s care.

Thank you for your continuing support in helping Hadassah recovery.
