Care for cows and funeral for beloved cattleman

Donation protected

Beloved Cattle rancher Gary Marchi, owner/operator of Moon Meadow Beef passed away in a tragic car accident on highway 205 in Tracey CA at approximately 2:45 PM, May 14th, 2020 while enroute to pick up a load of quality alfalfa hay for a group of his cows. Contact was between another vehicle and Gary’s truck causing Gary’s truck to roll over crushing Gary inside it’s cab. He was killed at the scene. Gary was truly loved by all that knew him. As the owner of Moon Meadow Beef he sold his packaged, USDA award winning natural beef at several Bay Area markets as well as Livermore, Monterey and Aptos. Gary was so loved by customers that they would often pitch in and help him when lines at his booth got long. He enjoyed shopping and grabbing little gifts for people he knew whether they were for Christmas or just because. After Gary’s passing, a couple days ago while cleaning His house we noticed a pink baby outfit, brand new with tags, in his room. His close friend told me that Gary had heard that one of the women who runs the farmers markets was pregnant and he had bought the outfit to give her. We believe Gary communicated to us somehow, asking us to still deliver the cute outfit to the expectant mother for him, since he was no longer able to physically do so. Gary’s cattle are still in the fields, and they need to be fed and cared for. And Gary needs and deserves a beautiful memorial service. Because this was an unexpected, tragic death and Gary didn’t have a will or trust his farm may be tied up in probate for quite some time before his bank accounts can be accessed. In the meantime these cows need to be cared for, lease on the pasture needs to still be paid  and we cannot access the funds to do so. We also intend to create 4-H scholarships for cattle enthusiasts in Gary's name and have a celebration of Life memorial at the very property he intended to have farm dinners. Anything you can donate here will help us care for his cattle and provide any necessary veterinarian needs they may require (as many of them are expecting calves at this time,),and help give Gary a funeral and burial, provide 4-H scholarships and a beautiful celebration of life.  Did Gary ever buy you a gift “just because?” Did he call you on the phone just to chat as he was known for and you now miss hearing that phone ring? Did he tell you that things would be okay when you needed someone to lend an ear or joke around with you in that special way he did? Are you or someone you know a farmer or rancher? Do you know what it’s like to feed the cows, repair the tractor and then do the bills at night only to be woken up once more in the middle of the night because one of your steers are injured and you need to find a vet? Gary sat with his animals all night when they were sick. Here he is with Peanut, one of his bottlefed calves. Please join us here in donating to the cattle and to Gary for both their needs at this sad https://sweetjames.com/one-killed-two-vehicle-crash-205-freeway-eleventh-street-tracy-ca/  time.
